Robin Redefined — Discover the story behind our brand’s refreshed look and feel

Robin Redefined — Discover the story behind our brand’s refreshed look and feel image

In the innovative landscape of technology, change is the only true constant.

In that vein of thinking, we’re thrilled to unveil Robin’s refreshed look, tagline and even a brand new emblem!

Robin has a long and colourful past. While the refresh preserves that heritage, it more clearly reflects the innovation that makes Robin a transformative market leader today.

We've scaled, launching unique products with winning campaigns. We've transcended far beyond our roots, but has our brand? It has now.

Head of Marketing, Jasper van Laanen, said: "Robin Radar Systems is a technology company at its core. A constant drive to innovate and improve our radar technology and software algorithms is what makes us an industry leader.

“Our updated brand identity reflects just that. Detecting and tracking small objects is not just what we do, it’s what we do best.”

Preserve, unify, convey

Our brand refresh revolves around three key principles, with it, we aim to:

  1. Preserve what we love - Robin’s history is steeped in innovation, collaboration and technology leadership. We're trusted to bring passion, as well as precision. And we always do.

  2. Celebrate our differences - Though we began in aviation, today our systems support diverse teams in defence, security, wind and ecology to detect, track and log their way to a safer world.

  3. Convey our identity - With relentless innovation, we create a safer, more secure world for humans and wildlife. Our radars empower teams with 360° awareness; the ability to track every small object in their airspace.

We have you covered

As well as a new look, we’ve updated our tagline. Why? We wanted words that would instantly speak to who and how our technologies help.

Our radars have been carefully innovated to deliver full, 360° coverage, reliable updates and the earliest possible warning. Day or night, they’re there for you when it matters most, giving you actionable information to react to threats or hazards wherever they emerge.

We’re Robin Radar Systems, we have you covered.

Our technologies are also applied in diverse projects with varied partners, so we opted for a flexible and inclusive tagline we could tailor.

When we speak to experts in wind and environment, for instance, we say: We have your wind farm covered. To civil aviation: We have your airport covered. Military aviation: We have your airbase covered. Or defence and security: We have your operations covered.

We could go on, you get the idea.

Our new 'Detection Emblem'

Is it a bird? No. A drone? Guess again.

Robin Radar detection emblem

Our partners and clients trust our logo, and, as a key piece of our heritage, we love it. It's going nowhere. However, when we looked again at our brand and all it stands for today, we realised it needed something more than the logo it was born with.

Bird, bat, or drone, our systems log thousands of observations, scanning every second to track and classify with precision. That’s who we are and what we do, we wanted to visualise it, and this is how our emblem enters the frame.

A new, emotive element of our brand, we use it wherever the logo doesn’t quite work. It isn’t a bird or a drone, it represents small object detection. It’s who we are, at a glance.

As a dynamic partner to our logo, you’ll notice it featured proudly in square spaces, like our social accounts, branded products, and more.

Our new 'Small Object Detection Grid'

You’ve probably noticed this new visual element to Robin: the ‘small object detection grid’. Replacing our ‘tracks’, the grid ultimately visualises how our technologies work.

The grid, and especially when shown as a dome, demonstrates how we empower heroes in aviation, ecology, defence and security with 360° awareness.

The grid visualises the algorithms that monitor and organise data as our radars continuously scan thousands of small objects to determine risk to operations.

So, in short, our brand refresh marks a leap towards the growth, diversity, and innovation our company has come to represent. But to fully understand the logic behind our new, forward-facing brand refresh, we must go back.

It began in 1980, in aviation

It’s the eighties. Perms are in and Pac-Man’s reign is certain. Technology is booming and the idea of Robin is born. Led by TNO, a project began to prevent collisions between birds and military planes. We got to work and never stopped.

You wouldn’t be the first to think our name, Robin, honours the sweet little bird that decorates Christmas cards. But ROBIN is an acronym of colourful technical heritage: Radar OBservation of Bird INtensity.

Robin Radar team in 2010

It all started with birds: avian radars for aviation. We're still strongly tied to civil and military aviation, but today we’re also one of the fastest-growing technology companies in the Netherlands.

As well as mitigating bird strikes in aviation, our technologies empower heroes in defence, security, ecology and more.

Today, Robin is defence and security

Our drone radars are deployed all over the globe, as well as airports and airbases, they've protected political summits, military operations, critical infrastructures and huge public events. We partner with experienced system integrators to provide a full CUAS solution with formidable radar at centre stage for early warnings and precise, real-time tracking and classification.

Robin is wind and ecology

We empower wind farm operators, wildlife experts and scientific researchers to preserve the balance between human society and the natural world. Our flagship avian radar, MAX, has helped inform protocol that preserves life all over the planet, from sea birds to flying foxes.

Our refreshed identity preserves a rich history, but it also propels us into a future filled with exciting possibilities.

CCO, Marcel Verdonk, said: "Robin Radar used to make 20 radars a year. At the end of 2023, we were producing 4 radars a week. And the best is yet to come.

“We look forward to unlocking the endless potential of our technologies as we forge ahead with the same spirit of innovation that has defined the company from day one.

“We'll continue to foster valuable connections in every corner of the globe, deploying systems far and wide. Our refreshed brand identity will grace many more radar systems over the coming years.”
