Introduction

What is drone detection radar?

Drone detection radar tracks, detects, and in some cases, classifies, drones and other small objects that traditional radar can't. Models with long-range classification help to avoid false alarms from objects like birds, and allow more time for teams to respond if the radar detects a drone. 3D technology is also particularly helpful as it makes drone detection more accurate.

At Robin Radar Systems, we’ve specialised in detecting and tracking small objects for 33 years.

We started with tracking birds, but validated our data with drones, to prove our radar tracking accuracy.

We’re in a unique position, with a wealth of experience, to detect, track, and classify (read separate) birds from drones. And that’s exactly what we’ve built IRIS® and ELVIRA®to do.

Where most other radars don’t provide classification of birds and drones, providing a high operator-workload, both IRIS® and ELVIRA® does that for you, automatically.

Does your radar automatically classify drones? If it doesn’t, it might be time for an upgrade.

Investing in a more powerful radar means you can concentrate on responding to unauthorised drones in your airspace.

Markets we serve

Our drone detection radars detect threats fast to help airports, air bases, prisons, power plants, government facilities, and more in the fight against drones.

“A 3D radar is really important in counter-UAS. It shows us exactly where the drone is, telling our other systems and sensors where to focus, too. That really speeds up the decision-making process, and time is key.”

– Lieutenant Colonel Rob Olthoff, Head of Joint Nucleus Counter UAS

“IRIS® can detect and classify drones swiftly and smoothly. It’s very easy to use. Moving targets, static targets, even multiple targets; they’re all detected and classified.”

– Marijn Verbaant, Min-def C-UAS Expert

“More than two years of experience with the ELVIRA® drone detection radar gives us the ability to locate drones quickly and easily. We are convinced that radar units are a necessary part of all critical infrastructure, and the demand will only continue to grow.”

– Marek Šoltys, CEO, Riden

Detect Up to 5 km

Need unlimited 360-degree coverage? We’ve got you covered.

Both IRIS® and ELVIRA® cover a full 360-degrees and come with a standard instrumented range of five kilometres.

It can detect larger fixed-wing targets at a range of up to five kilometres, with smaller multi-rotor drones detected at up to four kilometres.

Completely securing an area though, relies on more than just range detection. It requires flexibility and reliability.

Our radars provide unlimited coverage by combining multiple radar devices into an integrated sensor network.

The output from multiple radars is incorporated into one unambiguous picture, meaning a single drone causes a single alarm.

You won’t have multiple confusing alarms being created for a single drone being tracked by several radars.

IRIS® is a 3D radar and comes with a full 60-degree elevation coverage. Know exactly where your target drone is and how high it is. With accurate elevation reporting, IRIS® can cue other sensors and effectors for fast identification and mitigation.

Affordable & Smart

Military capability. A fraction of the price.

Radars are expensive. And military radars are seriously expensive. And not to disappoint you, but you probably shouldn’t be expecting it to classify drones separately from birds.

But it doesn’t need to be that way.

In much the same way that drone technology itself has recently become affordable and accessible, we’ve combined affordable hardware, with extremely smart software, to provide you with a military drone detection and tracking capability, at a fraction of the cost of a military system.

Tracking Exact Flight Paths

Learning curve? More like, operating straight out of the box.

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to use our drone detection radars. In fact, you don’t even need to be a radar scientist.

We’ve built our radars to be simple, intuitive, and easy for you to use. And that goes for both the hardware and the software.

Our new Drone Viewer software works with both IRIS® and ELVIRA®. It's a browser-based interface, comprising easy to understand colour-coded tracks, and you can even view drone tracks in 3D when using IRIS®.

Red tracks indicate drones and their flight path. Orange tracks represent suspected drones. Green tracks represent birds and other moving targets.

All track types can be toggled on and off, and the track visualisations and colours are all user-configurable.

Oh, and you can, of course, push our drone tracks and alarms, in real-time, to your own external security systems and command and control systems.
