When the Sky Comes Alive: Spectacular Drone Show Marks 15 Years of Robin Radar

When the Sky Comes Alive: Spectacular Drone Show Marks 15 Years of Robin Radar image

On a warm June evening, the quiet hum of Maastricht’s countryside was broken by the spin of propellers.

At the recent Future Frequencies event, a milestone celebration of 15 years of Robin Radar, the skies became a backdrop to a magnificent drone show. A party crescendo, and let's face it, the only fitting wrap for a company that makes its living detecting drones.

The team gathered with eyes turned upwards as the night sky came alive with a spectacular show of unity. With striking visuals, from planes to birds, dancing through the air, it was easy to miss a less obvious witness to the display.

On the outskirts of the crowd, quietly tracking every moment, was IRIS

Our flagship 3D drone radar was deployed at the event because, well, we could hardly miss the chance to track such a spectacle, could we?

15 years revealing the skies

Although Robin began in the 1980’s as a TNO project, our technology was spun out on June 23, 2010, when our CEO, Siete Hamminga, recognised our potential.

It was a glaringly bright day for radar innovation. A handful of people triggered a movement well ahead of its time. 15 years later, and our success rests upon a diverse, talented team of over 160 bright minds. All of them are devoted to a mission of safety and security that spans the globe today.

Through trials and triumphs, we’ve remained on the same wavelength, and that’s no easy feat. As lights joined, dispersed, and dashed in perfect form, we were reminded of that same spirit of unity through change. With it, the sky is the limit.

Our recent partnership with investment company Parcom is a perfect example. With their support, we’re scaling up with faster product rollouts, broader market reach, deeper innovation, and even more radar love.

Made for the challenge

When it comes to radar love, IRIS is packed with the stuff. It’s been designed, from the word go, for reliable performance in tricky, populated environments, with technologies that adapt fast.

IRIS comes into its own on the periphery of high-stakes events, VIP gatherings, and spectacles that draw crowds — just like our drone show.

Deployed in under 15 minutes with a total weight of just 29 kg (64 lbs), bringing our drone radar along was no real task. It can be transported in the back of a standard vehicle, installed quickly by a small team.

Performing on the move at speeds of up to 100km/h (62mph), IRIS is ideal for securing expansive perimeters and responding to threats that move rapidly in any direction. It may have been flying solo at Future Frequencies, but event protection rarely relies on a single system.

That’s why it also integrates seamlessly within full CUAS systems. IRIS forms the pulsing heart that detects, tracks and classifies, cuing other sensors and giving the earliest possible warning of drones.

Blue sky thinking

IRIS is brimming with light-bulb moments that prevented a choice between one function over another. We choose both. We choose no compromise. That's what makes us Robin.

All of our products represent continuous learning, growth, and a focus on safety and security that evolves with a fast, unpredictable world.

Back in June, as the final drone disappeared into the night sky, it was clear the show had been much more than a fitting celebration. It was a reflection of everything we chase, every day: precision, innovation, and unity.

A careful balance of engineering and imagination put those drones in the air, and that same formula means our tech detects, tracks, and classifies them on the ground.
